01
TL;DR — single-purpose DCA app vs full Bitcoin stack
Stacked Bitcoin (and similar apps — Swan, River, Relai) does one thing well: scheduled recurring buys of BTC from a connected bank account. Lightning Pay Wallet does that and everything else you'd otherwise need a second or third app for: native Lightning, stablecoins, bill pay, a Bitcoin Visa card, and in-wallet bank off-ramp — all non-custodial on a single 12-word seed.
If all you need is set-and-forget weekly buys, Stacked is fine. If you also want to spend, swap, pay bills or cash out, Lightning Pay collapses 3–4 apps into one.

DCA in each — what actually happens
Both apps let you schedule recurring BTC buys from a linked bank account. The mechanics differ in two important ways:
- Where the BTC lives
- Stacked holds your BTC in custody until you withdraw to your own wallet. Lightning Pay lands every buy directly in self-custody on your device.
- Withdrawal cadence
- Stacked users typically batch-withdraw weekly or monthly to avoid network fees. Lightning Pay has no such delay — Lightning makes per-buy delivery free.
- What you can do with the BTC
- Stacked: hold or withdraw. Lightning Pay: hold, spend via Visa, send over Lightning, swap to USDC, pay bills, cash out to bank.
- Cost on a $100 weekly DCA
- Stacked: ~$1 fee + manual withdrawal step. Lightning Pay: $0.50 fee, lands in self-custody automatically.

What a pure-DCA app misses
Spending
Stacked stops at 'you own BTC'. Lightning Pay's Visa card lets you spend it at any merchant at 0% FX.
Lightning sends
Need to pay a friend or buy a coffee in sats? Lightning Pay sends instantly. Stacked doesn't speak Lightning.
Hedging via stablecoins
Want to lock in a gain without selling to fiat? Swap BTC → USDC at 0.1% inside Lightning Pay. Stacked is BTC-only.
Bill pay
Pay rent, utilities, phone, credit cards in BTC. Stacked has no bill-pay rail.
Off-ramp to bank
Sell BTC back to USD/EUR in minutes via Strike or MoonPay. Stacked is buy-only.
Global coverage
Lightning Pay works in 100+ countries. Stacked is US-only.
